在1991年德国Nanofilm公司开始提供世界上第一台Brewster角显微镜(BAM)，该仪器主要用于薄层膜的观察。近几年来，Nanofilm又相继推出了不同用途的BAM产品以及相应的配套仪器，其最新款的EP3椭圆偏振呈像系统把椭圆偏振法与显微镜法相结合，为其进入到生物分析和微电子等研究领域提供了全新的可能。

Nanofilm科技公司在从位于德国哥庭根市（Goettingen）的马普生物物理化学研究所(Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysical Chemistry)获得技术转让之后，于1991年成立。起步之时，它只是一家规模较小、经营灵活的公司，逐渐的其员工队伍在不断扩大。

欧洲市场由Nanofilm总部直接提供服务，北美市场由Nanofilm在加州硅谷的子公司Accurion提供服务，而亚洲市场则由当地的十家经销商共同提供服务。Nanofilm总部员工负责在全球范围内提供技术支持。

Nanofilm develops, manufactures, and distributes instruments & accessories for analysis and microscopy of surfaces in the field of material research, biochips, flat panel displays, Langmuir-Blodgett research, etc. Beginning in 1991 with the first commercial Brewster Angle Microscope, we have consistently expanded our line of novel instrumentation and accessories to various unique ellipsometers.
 
An Ellipsometer is measuring thickness and refractive indexes.
 
An Ellipsometer is used for detection of surface defects, inhomogenities, etc.
 
An Ellipsometer with a high lateral resolutions are also able to measure on structured samples.
Along with our own developments, we have introduced and brought to market a variety of products in close cooperation with other companies and research institutes. For the past 17 years, world-renowned firms and institutes have been using Nanofilm instruments and integrated systems.
Since July 2008 Nanofilm Surface Analysis is a division of Halcyonics GmbH.
