The ROMDAS concept was developed in 1989 by Dr. Christopher R. Bennett. He continued to lead the technical development of the system until 2003. Since then Paul Hunter and Raj Mallela have taken over the management of ROMDAS.
ROMDAS is the product of a great deal of teamwork. Gary Carr from the University of Auckland developed the first prototype in 1989 and the early programming of the MS-DOS ROMDAS system was done by Gavin Murray. Since 1993 Paul Hunter was responsible for programming until 2002 when he became ROMDAS Technical Manager.
Software programming and hardware design is mainly done by GnT Software and Enovation Systems Ltd. Chevron Engineering fabricates most mechanical components and prototypes for us.
The ROMDAS System has been continuously developed by Data Collection Limited since the 1990's. It is one of the most cost effective and versatile data collection systems available for road asset management. ROMDAS is an innovative and completely portable modular system for collecting data on roads, pavements, and traffic condition. With ROMDAS you can use any vehicle to collect data on:
Location Referencing Points
Road Roughness
Transverse Profile and Rut Depths
Video Logging
Pavement Video
Visual Condition and Inventory
GPS Centreline
Road Geometry
Laser Surveying
Moving traffic Counts
Traffic Congestion and Delays
